#6 Humour in Speeches

The best way to succeed in the preparation and delivery of speeches is to add humour, whether the speech is intended to be funny or not.  When the audience laughs, they warm to the speaker and listen more attentively.  I always feel that an audience’s laughter is the greatest reward of all.  I love to hear people say how much they’ve enjoyed an entertaining and informative evening.

People say that some of my facts are funny in a quirky way.  Humour is a very personal thing.  In many ways you just have to be the way you are. But you have to keep it in mind that audiences of different age groups find different things funny.  So what works with one audience, sometimes fall quite flat with another audience.  When this happens you just have to learn, and employ a different strategy next time.

PS Stop underlining humour with a red line, I’m in Nottingham UK mon amour or as they say here mee duck, I’m not in the USA.
