– Association of Christian Writers (ACW)
– Association of Speaker Clubs (ASC)
These are British organisations. I joined Christians in Science in 2004 and have attended many of their annual conferences. I joined ACW more recently. I joined the-ASC seven years ago.
CiS
I am signed up to the CiS aim of combating the ‘conflict view’ of the relationship between science and Christian faith. It is clear to see that the earliest scientists were often practicing Christians and did their science to the glory of God. Today many scientists are Christians. Science and theology aim to discover truth. Studied together, the book of the Word and the book of nature can illuminate each other in the search for truth.
I believe that God actually created matter and actually created life. This is a minority view in Christians in Science now. Members of CiS do all agree, including me, that the vast universe has undergone change over millions of years, and that life forms on Earth have evolved, adapted and changed over time. However, for many God’s relationship with the universe is purely metaphysical – God redeems whatever He happens to find. For me God is Creator and the origins of life are akin to miracles of healing i.e. actual and physical.
God is metaphysical in that He is beyond the physical universe, but I believe that He acts in real ways within the universe He created.
What we all agree on is the wonder of nature and how science reveals its amazing intricacies. Even if we have different views, we all praise God for discoveries in science, and participate in a type of spiritual awe that raises us up to a greater vision of God.
ACW
Asssociation of Christian Writers is mainly about the process of writing. Most members write novels or poetry with underlying Christian themes. My science-based interests are mainly marginal to this group, but I share with them the common struggles and concerns faced by writers hoping to publish something one day.
